Who is Ed Ainsworth? Where are you from and what do you do for a living?

Who is Ed Ainsworth? For some reason that makes me think of the Old "Who is Donna Troy Storyline" from the Titans series many years ago. Suprisingly, I have nothing to do with an evil version of myself coming from an alternate timeline whilst my Kingdom Come children try and save me. I'm a long time comic book fan, Science Fan (Particularly Astro/Quantum Physics and Zoology), part time occult researcher (I know, I know.) and Part time Loner. I also enjoy long moonlit walks on the beach, irratating Neil Gow, and my favourite colour is Blue.

I'm a born and breed Englishman, right down the fact that i complain constantly, but am generally apathetic towards everything. I live in Kent, which as the London Underground would have you believe, is the Garden of London. First i heard of it. Currently, my job is supervisor for the Iron Mountain Scanning department in Sittingbourne (Commonly known as "The 'Bourne" because it's basically Satans afterbirth with a building on it.) It's great fun, i get to scan stuff. Every. Day.

What made you interested in the world of fan fic?

Honestly? The Opportunity to branch away from Roleplaying, which was were i spent most of my time during the lonely years of my Puberty and then into my middleschool years (Where we lived in Australia for 15 months, and i experienced hard-core bullying and the like - s'also where my first Massive Comic Binge came from.) I'd spent many, many years Roleplay, and whilst i loved my characters, I felt that i was better than trying to start storylines when all people wanted to do was go into Whisper and type out poorly designed sentances describling overtly sexual acts. So, I got involved with Fan Fic, at first with a site that died before it was launched and then with DCI.

What is the first title you wrote?

Ultra Marines - Which instills both disappointment and excitement in me. It started off as a No-Nonsense sort of "Look at all the random obscure heroes i can fit into a storyline that makes no sense involving a Cosmic figure and some destruction", and then somewhere along the line Inspiration smacked me in the mouth with a troat and BOOM! Off into the realms of insanity with Multidimensions based on Comic-book structure, the Panelverse, revamping characters after ideaological immersion, breaking the Forthwall with myself as a character, and generally being as random, wierd and interesting to write as humanly possible. Sadly, it's like trying to read words made out of glass. It hurts your eyes when you read it, and it makes about as much sense as putting a train ticket into a shopping trolley, wheeling it into a small creek and then worshipping it and it's pot noodle pot friend. I LOVE it though.

What projects are you currently working on?

Yeesh! Okay, Drum Roll Please - For DC Year Zero - Ultimate Animal man, which is essentially a blending of crazy science and adventuring. I wanted to try something different, so it's not your standard "Superhero" adventuring, its more...Scientific Adventures? The sort of Excitement that goes with the Discovering of something new and interesting and different and the frenetic almost Metaphysical approach towards Evolution and change within humanity.

For DCA - I am drastically re-vamping Wonder Woman, Erik Fromme and the lovely, lovely people of DCA have given me free reign to completely destroy and reconstruct the character from the ground upwards, and I can i just say, i'm having a sodding blast writing this one. It's insane, and you'll totally not expect what im doing with her (unless you know me, in which case i've probably already told you.)

For Marvel Omega - Excalibur - Come on. Englishman. Captain Britain. no Brainer. Honestly though, this, like everything, is a slightly different take on Excalibur, focusing on a few characters, mostly Captain Britain, a new love interest, and someone who was died, but revamped by Warren Ellis before he died. They're journeying around england, and i get to write about three awesome characters on a quest for something that'll save the country i love from the things i hate about it. No really, It'll be good. Honest.

And My Babies! DCI Animal Man - A series which i am CONSTANTLY excited about, seriously, its like being a puppy every day and someones going to give me a W-A-L-K, because this serious has got it going Oh-Ooon. At least for me. Blending some insanity, some metaphysics, a lot of psuedo-mystical natural elements and a lot of crazy ass storylines involving Nature based themes and characters you'll probably never want to read about, its the title i love to write.

Also, at DCI I have Blue Beetle, taken over from Bowie, i'm going to be taking the Beetle down the route that i think is most logical for the world and himself since Swarm, and its going to be a doooozy, at least i think so. Lots of characters involved, some getting revamped, some original characters and a lot of crazy teenage action, and fists being thrown into peoples faces with the pain!

At FSI - I'm doing a drastic reinvention of Thor, in the wake of Civil War and Ragnarok, which is going to end in some crazy explosions, a lot of expletives and some really, really, really big fights involving Thor going smacking things with his Semi-Real Hammer that makes up the Thought Form God Armor. It's exciting.

Also in the Mills - An X-Man series for Doug Bookey's Altered Visions, focusing not on the crazyness of AoA storylines, but involving him in an reinvention of his abilities and place in the world, as well as many other characters ranging from Thor to the Eternals. It's a trip through the memes and Genes of the Marvel Race Varients, and its going to be some good oldfashioned crazy Morrisonian fun.

As you can see, pretty much EVERYTHING i write excites me, and I just want to tell people about all the ideas i have on a daily basis. Somebody stop me!

What inspires your writing?

Everything. Honestly, I read a lot of science journals, and New Scientist weekly, and i talk to my brother a lot, and I read a HELLUVA lot of comics on a daily and weekly basis, as well as all the other books and games and TV programs i watch. I get it from every-where. Today i read in the newspaper about a Dinosaur, called Valefrons that used it's crest to create a trumpet like noise - That immediatly took me down the route of, Dinosaur Music, Primitive Dinosaur culture, and then onto some kind of Musical Prehistory Magic source based on the noise, the sounds and the variations in Bone density and structure of these dinosaurs.

Look for Dino Magic in a storyline sometime this year! Seriously though. Everything inspires me, i look outside my window and I am inspired to write. it's a Burden. No really.

Ever aspire to have your own site? If you do what kind of site would it be?

Hm. I dunno If i could manage my own site - If i did i'd want the most original and random revamps on characters you'll ever see. Something that'd make me go "OOh, Thats both random and exciting" Like Changing Lightray into the Gardener of the Source, using his abilities to weave a Polytropic pathway through the Universe, and the higher levels of mentality.

See, Impress me with big words and ill be your squishy forever and ever! Honestly though, I dont know. I Like Marvel, I Like DC...I think maybe i'd try for something different, like Wildstorm or Image or even Darkhorse productions.Just something different that we can all have a good crack at and maybe make amazing.

Marvel or DC offer you a job. Where would you go and why or why not?

Hard, hard question. I think maybe i'd really have to weigh it up. On the one hand, DC has so many fantastic nature based characters, Like Animal man, or Psuedo-characters like Hawkman, or Hawk and Dove, or something, that i'd be really, really attracted to it.

On the other hand, Marvel has Dr Strange, my favourite character EVER. I'd kill someone for a chance to write him, but the fact of it is, the more i like a character, for Marvel this seems especially true, the more pressure i put on myself to be amazing and brilliant and it always falls flat on it's face because i end up making it CRAP. So, Dancing on the edge of a knife really.

Could go either way.

Write while listening to music? If you do, what are you listening to?

Oh Yes. I like a bit of everything. I love Heavy Metal and that sort of thing, In Flames, Soilwork, Slayer, Mastadon, etc. Like those, but i also enjoy listening to a lot of Indy English music, as well like the Futureheads, Wombats, Pigeon Detectives, Biffy Clyro. I have some rap in there, Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobious Pip, which is a favourite of mine at the moment. Kate Nash, who for some reason i would LOVE to take away for a weekend in a travel Lodge, and Jaime T. Also, a Bit of Muse, a Lot of System of a Down, Electric Six, Moondog and Thelonious Monk - and a Local Band which my mates in called "Polka Party" Love it.

Favorite authors? (non fan fic or comic related)

Favourite Authors? Hm. None that really influence my work, more than Grant Morrison. You can probably tell. I love Grant, i love his ideas and his execution (Except that Joker story that was just prose and random images now and then. Come on, What was that?!) Mike Mignola, and John Arcudi, for their BPRD, Hellboy and Nevermen contributions. I like Robert Rankin, an English Comedy writer, I like a lot of random science fition Books. I read a lot of Journals as well, so I always like those. Uhm. I like Erik Larson, beacuse Savage Dragon is such a silly violent read, I love Guy Davis because his work is always full of genuingly disturbing Horror. Mike Allred, because its Pop Tastic (Red Rocket 7 was AMAZING), Peter Milligan, Garth Ennis, Warren Ellis, Alan Moore Ian Edington, Mark Millar, Paul Girst. I have fond memories of K A Applegates Everworld and Animorphs Books. H. P. Lovecrafts Dense, REALLY Dense Horror, Tom Sharpes HORRIFICALLY Sharp Wit and Cutting Sarcasm, Jeremy Clarkson again for that amazingly biting Wit, and also that Russian Dude who wrote Nightwatch. I like that.

Any other hobbies?

Comics, mostly. I draw a bit, I annoy people on a regular basis, talking about random stuff. Love Science, so i chat and do a bit of that now and then (Most recently some experiments on Inter-Species competition between Native Ladybirds and Foreign Ladybirds), I have a Parrot who wont leave me alone. I play on my PS2, or Wii, Watch a Lot of British Comedy, and a lot of Buffy, and travel around the country meeting my friends and getting Wankered.

Thank you for your time. Anything else you would like to say? Say it here.

Uhm, Not anything really. I've spoken at length about EVERYTHING. Only that if people want to chat about anything, everything, or nothing, be it from my titles, or titles they're writing, or stuff they want me to check out, I can be reached DAILY on the.bkole@gmail.com

And I love getting Emails.

Cheers Now!
