1.) So Hunter Lambright, if that is your real name, tell us about yourself. What are you? What makes you tick? Are you an alien? Are you secretly in the FBI? In other words, who the hell are you?
I'm Hunter Lambright (or am I?) and, well, I'm one of the youngest fan-ficcers on the Web right now. I sit here at the ripe young age of ** and boy does it feel good. In fact, if I wasn't young, I wouldn't be able to keep up with the sheer volume of insane tasks put upon between editing all of X-M, writing half of it, and pretending to be in charge--and don't forget my tiny collections of issues at the Omega sites. God knows how I get anything done like a social life.
2.) So what uuh, happened to make you join the ranks of the elite fanfictioning community at good ol’ UXN?
The truth? I was downright ticked when I read New X-Men #20, and I missed those characters big-time. Then I saw your thread, TJ, on UXN's message board about continuing New X-Men without the House of M. By the time I came in, you needed a co-editor, and I needed a reality check about what I was getting into. Unfortunately, you got your co-editor, and the reality check went ignored, hence--X-M. I began to "branch out" a tiny bit when I read a co-writer's work at Marvel Omega, so I pitched the Runaways (which was conspicuously missing there) and you all know the story from there.
3.) Yes, uh-huh, so what got you into X-Men or, as I know for a fact, what fueled your obsession with the merry New Mutants?
My dad's got an old collection of New Mutants comics in our shed. I cut my teeth on those comics. (Heck, I learned about the birds and the bees more from those comics than my 'rents). But when I heard online that my dear New Mutant friends had gone off and grown up--I was completely dismayed! Then, I found out that most were X-Men, and suddenly, I had a reason to buy my own damn comics instead of mooching off my dad's '80s stash. Even though my list of titles has ever-expanded, the old New Mutants remain dear to my heart, especially poor, poor Douglas Ramsey. Cypher, you are missed, my friend. You taught me what it's like to be useless. (0.o)
4.) Now, Nightcrawler is your favorite character, right? (Hence the web-handle Crawler) Who’re your top ten comic book characters and why? (Yes I include the cursed DC in this question *shudders*)
Yes, Nightcrawler's my #1 favorite. Here's my laundry list:
1. Nightcrawler
2. Cannonball
3. Banshee
4. Shadowcat
5. Cypher/Warlock/Douglock
6. Magik
7. Moonstar
8. Sunspot
9. Wildcat (DC)
10. Beast (barely making the cut above Colossus)
5.) Moving on from that terrifying list, which writers both comic and not would you say have most influenced your work in fan fiction?
Ooh, tough call. I want to say Claremont's on that list, because a lot of my ideas are kind of...out there, shall we say? (And oftentimes are poorly executed, too). However, I'd also like to say I learned a sense of grit from Ed Brubaker and a way to convey fight scenes from Tony Bedard. Sure, he dictates it to his artist, but I still love some of that stuff, especially his work in Exiles. Agree or not, I liked it and tried to incorporate it. Outside comics, I probably have to say that Anthony Horowitz has had some influence just because my ex-girlfriend said so. Otherwise, I’m not so sure.
6.) We can all tell you have a man-crush on Sam Guthrie, are we going to be hearing wedding bells anytime soon?
No, Cannonball already told me that his heart belongs to Magma, dang it. Oh, you mean them? Well...wedding bells? Not exactly...
7.) As a big fan of your work, can you give me any spoilers and hints? (Or pretend you haven’t told me some/all of them.)
X-Men (X-M): I plan on filling a few graves to replace the two I've opened, followed by a fight against the media and the X-M appearance of Pandemic (in a radically altered origin), and a story explaining *why* there were resurrections before we lead straight into our linewide crossover--Project: Override. ("Did somebody say...robots?!")
As for my other works, we'll have to wait and see. Most are mid-storyline and could go any number of ways next, so we'll see, now won't we? (Oh, and don't forget "The Kang Letters" in X-M's Young Avengers!)
8.) Uuuh, which of your storylines/issues are you most proud of. Name me SIX of them =] pretty please?
1. X-Men #5-7: Demonic Revelation Parts 1-3 (X-M)
2. Amazing Fantasy #11: Following Footsteps (Marvel Omega)
3. Young Avengers X-Mas Special 2006 (X-M)
4. X-Men Annual 2006: Magnetic Pull (X-M)
5. Exiles #3-7: Timebroken Parts 1-5 (X-M)
6. Runaways #1-5: No Parents Allowed Parts 1-5 (Marvel Omega)
9.) You’re obviously a big fan of DC, if you could write any title from there which would it be?
Justice Society of America. Hands down. I love that cast.
10.) I know about your extensive work for MO *cough*SONOTASGOODASX-M*cough* Can you give us any hints are to future storylines for your extremely cool Runaways title?
I'll give you one big hint: Cyanide and the Buyer are the same person. In the CONSPIRACY tie-in, one Runaway will die, one will be changed forever, and one will discover his/her true allegiance.
11.) You’re gunna be writing this crazy-assed title called X-Treme… X-Men is it? Any clues as to who is doing what (and who) there?
You know earlier when I mentioned the X-Men fighting the media? That's how these guys are formed. They are the ULTIMATE public-relations team. Archangel will be key for his money, Sunspot for his former role manipulating the media in the pages of Marvel's X-Treme X-Men, and good ol' Empath joins the X-Team for the first time in X-M! You don't wanna miss the sparks that fly there, people.
12.) Who do you love writing most?
Cannonball, hands down. He's so naive, yet knows just how the world can do someone wrong. He's a blast (no pun intended) to write.
13.) Soooo, tell me who you want who you really really want. You wanna You wanna You wanna you really really really wanna ziggazigaaaah. Which characters do you really want to write and whys?
Ha! I want a telepath, TJ. Can I have one of the thirty telepaths or so that you hoarded? Please? I've always wanted to write someone who can read you frickin' mind.
14.) Penultimately, anyone you’d like to give a yell ut to? Any shameless plugging? Now’s the time to do it, or else I WILL get irritated and possibly rip your head of! Tell me! Any titles you’d like to see, any fanfics you recommend?
Read Meriades Rai's SUPERVILLAIN WAR over at Avengers 2000. It's an absolutely amazing read every time. The Spot, who's always been a favorite of mine, is KING!
Read TJ's ASTONISHING X-MEN at X-M or else, well, he'll go all Whedon on you. You know how he is. No, really. He's great at character moments, and he's finding his niche in storytelling/fight scenes, too. Four titles at Marvel Omega also consistently get me pumped: DAREDEVIL, PUNISHER, BLACK CAT, and WEREWOLF BY NIGHT. If you haven’t read those, you haven’t checked out the Marvel Knights when their hands aren’t tied.
Also, watch out, because there's a simple mathematical equation spinning the gears in the ages to come in X-M.
X - M = 616 + 2099
Discuss *that*.
Finally. Hunter (*insert middle name here*) Lambright, will you marry me?
Uh...let me get back to you on that one...
